With a new CLIA report indicating river cruising is on the rise, Travelmarvel today announced it has ordered three new European river ships.

The new vessels will have 91 cabins, big sun decks and a more casual dining experience – and mark a major investment in the line.

They feature a 2 ½ deck design, allowing maximum access to the ship’s sun deck. Guests will be able to enjoy a drink at the rooftop bar, find a shady spot to unwind at the terrace garden, or go for a dip in the heated whirlpool.

Both the main restaurant and Vista Lounge feature floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, and the Vista Lounge’s bi-folding windows open out to the front verandah, allowing for uninterrupted airflow and outdoor access.

The brand-new Contemporary Class Ships also feature a more casual dining and social area, McGeary’s Bar. Here, guests will be able to enjoy hearty pub-style meals.

“Every aspect of the new ships are designed with the Travelmarvel guest in mind, we have included more social spaces, modern fittings and state-of-the-art design to ensure the ships suit our guests’ desires,” explained Travelmarvel’s CEO David Cox.

The announcement of the ships comes as Cruise Lines International Association’s 2018 survey shows river cruise is growing in popularity. The most popular river cruises showcase Europe, including 53% growth to eastern waterways (Rhine, Moselle, Danube, Elbe), 30% growth to western channels (Soane, Seine, Loire) and 24% growth to the south (Douro, Rhone, Dordogne, Garonne, Po).

The first of the brand-new Contemporary Class Travelmarvel vessels will set sail in April 2020, followed by two more in April 2021.

They will sail from Amsterdam to Budapest and vice versa.

The cabins, ranging from 14.2 to 24 square metres in size, feature a host of superior inclusions such as recessed blackout blinds, ensuring the perfect night’s sleep. The main and upper deck cabins feature wide horizontal electric windows which create a French style balcony when lowered.

Travelmarvel’s Diamond and Jewel underwent a soft refurbishment of the cabins, Vista Lounge, restaurant and reception in 2018.

Further details and itineraries will be included in Travelmarvel’s 2020 Europe brochure will be available Friday 1 February via www.travelmarvel.com.au
