For all golf and river cruise lovers, European Waterways are offering golf-themed charters through France.

To celebrate the Ryder Cup, one of the most famous golfing tournaments in the world, guests onboard these special itineraries can play at the top golf courses in France.

“We’re seeing increasing interest for hotel barge cruises in Southern France from golf aficionados who want to satisfy their love of the sport,” said Derek Banks, managing director for European Waterways.

“If they can’t get tickets to the Ryder Cup, then we have the next best thing – tee time at some of the top golf courses in France, where the scenery is just as magnificent and the sand traps just as challenging.”

Some of the golf courses are located in regions like Burgundy and the Canal du Midi, as well as neighbouring courses in the Loire Valley.

Between rounds of golf, guests can also participate in culinary excursions, wine tastings and exclusive tours of castles and stately chateaux while feasting on local cuisine.

Among the hotel barges available for golf-themed charters, the deluxe 12-passenger L’Impressionniste offers cruises in Southern Burgundy between Fleurey-sur-Ouche and Escommes.

Courses include the Club du Pre Lamy in Auxois, the Chateau de Chailly, and Golf de Beaune in Levernois, a vast grass course with nine lakes and thousands of trees.

In Burgundy, guests can also charter the eight-passenger L’Art de Vivre, which sails between Auxerre and Chevroches. Courses include the Chateau de Tanlay Golf Club, situated on the grounds of the Tanlay Chateau.

The chateau is considered to be the ‘jewel of the French Renaissance,’ thanks to its impressive wall paintings, extensive trompe l’oeil paintings and frescoes. Guests can also play at the Domaine du Roncemay Golf & Country Club, among other venues.

Known for its outstanding wines and aristocratic estates, the Loire Valley also offers some of France’s most picturesque golf courses.

The eight-passenger Renaissance, cruising between Chatillon-sur-Lore and Montargis, is an ideal charter. Guests can play at Golf de Fontainebleau and Golf du Château de Cely.

Another popular venue is Golf du Sanserrois, located on the banks of the River Loire and set among centuries-old trees.

A minimum of four passengers are required for a golf cruise and there is a supplemental fee, applicable for each player.

Non-golfing guests can enjoy escorted excursions to castles and chateaux, wine tastings, food markets, and other sightseeing opportunities and attractions.
