Fancy a river cruise but worried about sailing solo? Never fear – European river cruise company Riviera Travel has two special cruises catering just for single travellers.

This is sensational news if you’re considering a cruise and you’re single and ready to mingle in 2019!

Riviera is running two itineraries in November which carry no single supplements for its guests. The cruises will only be available for single travellers on the line’s Oscar Wilde vessel, which has 88 cabins, while Lord Byron has 74.

Riviera Travel Head of Specialist Product Will Sarson said: “Customers can choose any cabin or suite on each ship and there will be no additional single supplement whatsoever.”

He also iterated that the two cruises were far from being singles or matchmaking cruises, but rather journeys on which friends who didn’t want to share a stateroom could enjoy a cabin on their own, saving thousands of dollars.

Planned for autumn 2018, Riviera’s first solos-only cruise is an eight-day Blue Danube river cruise round-trip from Budapest to alluring destinations in Hungary, Slovakia and Austria on the Oscar Wilde, and is priced from $3119. It departs November 1.

The second sails from Lyon to Avignon on the Saone River. Shore excursion highlights include Ardeche Gorges, as well as the 2000-year-old Roman aqueduct Pont du Gard. This itinerary is priced from $3529 and departs November 6.

Before 2010, solo occupancy was virtually non-existent. However, the raft of emerging millennial and contemporary cruise itineraries demonstrate that cruise lines have woken up to recognising the need, nay, the demand for accommodating solo travellers.

Norwegian Cruise Line also offers dedicated solo cabins, along with Holland America Line, and others rushing to join the ranks.
