May is proving to be the best month to book your European river cruise, with almost every line offering remarkably big savings.
Avalon is offering savings of up to $6,800 in its “Snooze and you don’t cruise” sale, while Viking’s “May Madness” offers up to $1,000.
APT and Scenic are offering free flights, with Scenic adding a two-night Singapore stopover.
Here’s what the lines have on offer:
Viking is offering a “May Madness Cruise Sale” with free flights to Europe and savings of up to $1000 per couple for select cruise itineraries in 2020 provided bookings are made by 31 May.
A 15-day Grand European Cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest (or vice versa) which includes 14 guided tours across four countries, departing on 4 November 2020, will now cost $5995 per person in a standard stateroom or $7195pp for a veranda stateroom.
A 13-day Waterways of the Tsars from Moscow to St Petersburg (or vice versa) which includes 10 guided tours across six countries departing on 7 October 2020, will now cost $7995pp in a deluxe stateroom or $9895pp in a veranda stateroom.
Prices of a 12-day Cities of Light cruise from Paris to Prague (or vice versa) which includes 10 guided tours across four countries departing on 4 November next year, start from $4795pp for a standard stateroom or from $6195pp in a veranda stateroom.
A 15-day France Finest cruise from Paris to Avignon which includes 14 guided tours departing on 3 November 2020 will cost from $6495pp in a standard stateroom and $8695pp in a veranda stateroom.
APT has also unveiled new European river itineraries for 2020 with super-deal savings including free flights. The line has special packages for select 14-night cruises where passengers can fly business class for $3995 per person. Other deals include free flights for companions, air credit and no solo supplements on select itineraries. Bookings must be made before 30 November.

Avalon Waterways is offering savings up to $6800 per couple for select European itineraries of 14 nights or more in 2020, provided bookings are made by 30 May.
Prices for a 15-day cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest across four countries, Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Hungary have been slashed to $6495pp – down from $8795pp – a saving of $2300pp. In addition, there’s a bonus saving $2200 per couple, making a total saving of $6800 per couple.
Those choosing to take a shorter European cruise for up to six nights will have a saving of up to $700 per couple while those cruising from 7 to 13 nights will enjoy a saving of up to $1100 per couple. All bookings must be made before 30 May this year.
An 8-day cruise from Remich to Nuremberg now cost $4320pp – down from $4920 – which means a saving of $600 pp. There will be a bonus saving of $2200 per couple. This means a total saving of $3400 per couple.
A 10-day cruise from Port St Louis to Paris now cost $4191pp – down from $5391 – a saving of $1200 pp. In addition there will be a bonus saving of up to $2200 per couple. This means a total saving of $4600 per couple.
Scenic is also offering free flights on all European river cruises of 11 days or longer for 2020 provided bookings are made before 31 August this year.
Passengers who book and pay before 31 October will get an additional discount of $600 per couple on cruises of 11 days or longer or $300 per couple on cruises of 10 days or less.
In addition to your free flights, passengers will receive a complimentary two night Singapore Stopover when combining a cruise of 11 days or longer with an escorted land journey, two city stays or a second cruise of equal or longer duration.
Scenic also has an offer of a business class ticket at $3995 pp when booking a Diamond or Sapphire Deck suite on selected cruises of 11 days or longer.
There is also a 50 per cent discount for solo travellers if they book a suite on Scenic Space Ship departures on cruises of 11 days or longer.
Scenic’s all-inclusive ships cruise on the Rhine, Moselle, Main and Danube rivers visiting the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Hungary.
For instance, the price for an 11-day Bordeaux river cruise visiting stunning wineries with a private concert at Chateau Agassac start from $6945 pp with flights included.
An 11-day South of France cruise from Lyon to Lyon starts from $6995 pp including flights. The cruise on the Saone and Rhone rivers through the South of France will visit Avignon, Viviers & Beaune.
