Uniworld has launched its newest super ship, the S.S. Sphinx on the Nile River in Egypt.

Launching on September 23, she has been designed to showcase the best of Egyptian design, cuisine and culture.

The S.S. Sphinx offers foodies two gourmet dining venues, including a private dining room and an alfresco dining experience on the upper deck, a swimming pool, and a massage room, and 42 suites.

The menus were designed by local chefs to highlight Egyptian cuisine. Some of the options include Egyptian beef liver, veal fatteh, sweet corn soup, mulukhiya Egyptian bread, Hawawshi, and much more.

The delicious meals are paired with local wine varieties including Omar Khayyam and Shahrazade.

Onboard the ship, the S.S Sphinx has Egyptian artwork, fabrics, and hand-carved furlongs to bring the beauty of the region to life on board.

Egypt is a top tending travel destination and Uniworld is excited to be sailing along the famous Nile River.

“CEO and President of Uniworld Boutique River Cruises, Ellen Bettridge said; “We’re excited for our guests to experience the ship as it fully embodies what they love most when sailing with us, exquisite design and experiences they won’t find anywhere else”.

The team has been busy over the last few years and have spent countless hours sourcing the design aspects, sometimes spending weeks at a time searching the souks and baazars to connect with local artisans and family-owned furniture businesses to collaborate and bring the Egyptian spirit to life on board.

Everything on the ship was designed in consultation with the local community with the utmost attention going into its design.

For example, the ship’s ceilings were hand-carved in locally sourced blonde wood; the carpets are inspired by Egyptian geometric shapes of the magnificent Pyramids; the banquettes were handcrafted and upholstered in fabric sourced from a local fabric company and the top deck is filled with blue-toned furniture with tented drapes to shade from the sun inspired by the ancient Egyptian Barges.

The features the signature touches the cruise line’s ships are known for including more suites, more dining areas, space for physical distancing, and more luxurious finishes. All staterooms and suites onboard have French balconies allowing guests the opportunity to soak up the fresh air and admire the views as they sail down the river.

The ship offers the Splendors of Egypt & The Nile itinerary, which is a 12-day trip starting and finishing in Cairo. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the Temple of Karnak which is the world’s largest ancient religious building, visit temples dedicated to Hathor and other mythological figures and pay tribute to the country’s first female ruler at the Temple of Hatshepsut and admire ancient artifacts at the renowned Egyptian Museum.

Rates start at $5,999 and sailings are all-inclusive of all meals, premium spirits and wine, river view accommodation, offshore excursions, airport transfers, onboard gratuities, and WiFi
