Viking River Cruises are launching six of their award-winning Longships to sail the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers this year. The slightly smaller Viking Helgrim will also make her debut on Portugal’s Douro River.

The new fleet of 190-guest Longships includes Viking Einar, Viking Sigrun, Viking Sigyn, Viking Tir, Viking Ullur and Viking Vali.

Viking’s adults-only vessels show off modern Scandinavian design and appeal to travellers looking for cultural insight and personal enrichment as guests get to learn about the art, history and culture of their destination while onboard.

The Longships also feature 445-square-foot Explorer Suites with wraparound balconies, including perks such as a Silver Spirits beverage package and private airport transfers within Europe.

Itineraries include the favourite and iconic eight-day “Rhine Getaway” which sails from Basel, Switzerland, to Amsterdam. The itinerary will bring you to Germany’s best-preserved medieval castle, towns and grand cathedrals.

Consider getting a pre or post cruise stay in Basel or Lucerne, Switzerland; Lake Como, Italy or Amsterdam.

Meanwhile Viking Tir will be sailing a new 10-day “Holland and Belgium” itinerary between Amsterdam and Antwerp, Belgium.

This one is for the World War II buffs as cruisers can learn about Operation Market Garden and the 1944 Allied attack near Arnhem at the Nijmegen call. Guests can even pay homage to fallen soldiers at Oosterbeek’s Airborne Cemetery.

Those seeking a longer cruise can consider the 15-day “Grand European Tour” itinerary from Budapest to Amsterdam available on Viking Tir and Viking Vali.
