River cruising along the Mekong River allows you to move effortlessly through the local landscapes and villages that would otherwise be difficult to reach; the ship is your hotel! As it peacefully takes you from village to village, you get to enjoy the perfect combination of onboard and on-land experiences.

As river cruising in the Mekong is a newer way to travel, it comes as little surprise that it comes with a slightly different packing list. Here are some of our tips to help you pack for an upcoming Mekong river cruise holiday!

Don’t pack your whole wardrobe!

One of the greatest advantages of river cruising is the ability to unpack once and store your empty suitcase under your bed (rather than tow it from hotel to hotel). However, this doesn’t mean that you should pack your entire wardrobe!

Mix and match your clothing

When packing for a Mekong river cruise, opt for shirts, pants, shorts and skirts that can be worn for multiple outfits. It’s also good to note that many on-land excursions in Cambodia require shoulders and knees to be covered. Make sure you have some longer-length pants, shorts and skirts, as well as sleeved t-shirts.

Keep in mind comfort and wrinkle-resistant, easy-care, breathable clothing will help to make you feel even more relaxed.

Include the right elements for the right elements

Sometimes the weather in Southeast Asia can be a little unpredictable. Make sure you always pack a lighter jumper in case it gets a bit cold, a hat and sunscreen for sunny days and a waterproof jacket for the occasional drizzle. Most importantly, don’t forget a pair of comfortable walking shoes!

While mosquitos don’t pose a big risk to travellers along the Mekong, it’s still a good idea to pack some insect repellent as well.

Now you’ve got your packing out of the way, all that’s left for you to do is to sit back, relax and enjoy! If you’re ready to experience the unexplored along the Mekong, check out our website for more information.
